Flat Planet was started
about 10 years ago at New Vale House, a day centre for
physically disabled young adults. For the first 3
years we used this venue and later The Link Centre for
rehearsals and the purchase of equipment.
About 6 years ago the group decided to become independent
of the support they had from Oldham Social services, and
got a new rehearsal place at Shaw Centre.
In 2006 the group applied and got Lottery funding for the
purchase of musical equipment. This has let us have a
small amount of equipment available for group users. This
equipment is to help people get back in playing.
The group has now moved again !! but this time we are not
moving anywhere else. We now are based at Oldham
Local Interest Centre, on Greaves Street Oldham. This
venue is opposite the site where New Vale House used to
stand before it was demolished in 2001, so we have gone
full circle and returned to where the group started. Only
on the other side of the road.
Our new rehearsal room is perfect for Flat Plant. It has
ramped entrance, fully adapted toilets and wheelchair
friendly doors and floor coverings.
